¹⁴ Yet they say to God, ‘Leave us alone!^(A)
    We have no desire to know your ways.^(B)

¹⁰ even there your hand will guide me,^(A)
    your right hand^(B) will hold me fast.

⁶ “‘Alas, sword^(A) of the Lord,
    how long till you rest?
Return to your sheath;
    cease and be still.’^(B)

¹⁷ Life will be brighter than noonday,^(A)
    and darkness will become like morning.^(B)

⁴ Though they are driven into exile by their enemies,
    there I will command the sword^(A) to slay them.

“I will keep my eye on them
    for harm^(B) and not for good.^(C)”^(D)

¹⁷ You, Lord, hear the desire of the afflicted;^(A)
    you encourage them, and you listen to their cry,^(B)
